Crew chief role for Texan keeps Anderson in dugout
SAMSULA,fLA.(FEB.8-9) - In each of the past Story By Jim Carlson Late Model Digest editor
two autumns,Dick Anderson has made the trip to
Texas to help out longtime friend Davis Lege'. Both
times Anderson's influence showed up immediately,
as Lege' took an $8,000-to-win ROMCO Super Late
Model Series event at ThunderHill Raceway in 2001
and should have won the same event the previous
year.
David's brother Doug Lege',who benefited from David's misfortune on a restart to win the 2000 event,
watched the chemistry develop with Anderson and
wanted a piece of the action. The families had talked
during the off-season about coming to Speedweeks and Anderson being his crew chief, thus keeping Ande-
erson out of the drivers seat for the 36th annual World
Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing.
Anderson, from Wildwood,Fla., got more than a chance to save his equipment for Florida's regular season series, beginning with the Feb.24 Icebreaker as part of Desoto Speedway's All-American Challenge. " The King of the Florida Short Tracks" will also get the use of a cus-
tom Pit Cart this season through Pit Solutions,a company owned by none other than Doug Lege'.
Doug Lege' had three goals in his visit to Speedweeks,: have fun,to get his Super Late Model running near the front , and to market pit carts from his company Pit Solutions.

"I called him three or four weeks ago to see if he was still interested in doing that, and he said he sure was,"said Lege',from Tomball,Texas."I told him,'We're coming to Speedweeks, so I"ll build you one and bring it,so you have one to use.'I still haven't built one for myself yet."
Lege' has a second reason for his trip to New Smyrna Speedway,as interest in his pit carts has allowed him to tap into the Florida market. He may end up building more than a dozen carts for the Sunshine State racers.
Through the first weekend of the World Series, the marketing of PitSolutions has gone a bit better than his perfo-rmance on the half-mile. Lege' had to go through one of the last chance races to make the feature field on opening night, then elected to park it instead of starting in the 12th row and take a chance on destroying his Lefthander.
Qualifying went a bit better in the Saturday event and he started 16th, but after not making much progress due to difficulty in getting his car to turn, he pulled in and loaded up. Knowing they have six nights of racing left, neither Anderson nor Lege' was discouraged.
"We're working on it." Anderson said. "He can tell we're getting better. By Wednesday or Thursday we'll be
racing with 'em up front." LMD
